If you're here thanks to RenFaireSG,
welcome! Thank you for dropping by.This site will provide a bit more context for each mythological deity I designed for the RenfaireSG houses. Do note; each print is a bit different as they're stained by hand with tea!

HOUSE OF STRENGTHVALPONOS
-
Inspired by the Greek personification of toil and hardship, Ponos. Added the prefix "Val", derived from the Latin word valere (to be strong/worthy).I initially wanted it to look a bit like a tarasque or something similar to Cho' gath from League of Legends. I settled on a rhino, turtle and moose hybrid as I didn't want to delve too far into demonic or eldritch horror. The scales directly contributing to the tools used by the House of Strength seemed fitting, considering the emphasis on labour.
HOUSE OF WITSYRDON
-Inspired by a prominent trickster figure in Caucasian Nart sagas of the same name. I found it important to find someone who's clearly a trickster but leaning towards the lawful good/chaotic good alignment.Foxes are prominently used to represent someone who's sly or cunning, which fit the House of Wit. I honestly wasn't too sure of what I wanted to design outside of having a brush-like tail simulate a calligaphy brush, so a serpent's body felt safest to work with.
HOUSE OF COURAGEANHURION
-Inspired by Anhur, an the ancient Egyptian deity of war, hunting, and slaughter, who's heavily associated with bravery, courage, and strength.Lion = courage. Fairly straightforward.Design-wise, I took a lot of inspiration from Teostra and Inagami from the Monster Hunter franchise (ngl I did refer to ALOT of their art for all the renfaire prints)
HOUSE OF TRUTHVERITAS
-Inspired by the Roman Goddess Veritas, Latin for "truth," and the personification of virtue. No real reason for dragon other than cool factor + old and ancient being who would've bore witness to a lot of lies and truth I suppose.Took some ideas from Jin Dahaad from Monster Hunter (again) but was a bit too complicated so I simplified it to just cool dragon (that and I had to keep the design complexity between each House relatively the same).
HOUSE OF FAITHMELEKTAUS
-Inspired by Melek Taus (or Tawûsî Melek), the "Peacock Angel," who is the central, revered deity in the Yazidi faith.Made it an eagle-crane-peacock hybrid. The crane symbolizes faith, vigilance, and spiritual devotion across various cultures and traditions. Peacock because Melek Taus, and eagle as it also represents spiritual vision and trust in a higher power.Took some ideas from Monster Hunter (whoa big surprise there), primarily Aknosom.
